Women’s Herald Sun Tour 2018, eerste etappe

 

In Australia gaan de rensters nu twee dagen rijden in de Women’s Herald Sun Tour 2018. De eerste etappe finisht in Healesville en dat is in de buurt van Melbourne. Deze wedstrijd over 123,5 KM is best heuvelachtig met een steile afdaling naar de finish. Morgen is er een individuele tijdrit waarin Annemiek van Vleuten voor de eerste keer, haar in Bergen (Noorwegen), veroverde WK trui laat zien.

Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race, vrouwen

Oh wat is ze blij in haar “kanarie-gele outfit! Chloe Hosking (Ale Cipollini) wint de vrouwenedititie van de Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race. De Australische is sneller dan haar landgenote Gracie Elvin (Mitchelton Scott) en Giorgia Bronzini (Cylance Pro Cycling).
 
 
Anouska Koster reed zaterdag naar een toptienklassering in de Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race (Deakin Women’s Race). En daar had misschien voor WaowDeals Pro Cycling nog wel meer in gezeten. Een vlucht van Sabrina Stultiens werd pas een kilometer voor de eindstreep onschadelijk gemaakt door een achtervolgende groep van 30 rensters.
 
 
Zoals ploegleider Jeroen Blijlevens vooraf voorspelde, zo gebeurde het ook. De 2 beklimmingen in de finale van de Australische eendagswedstrijd waren beslissend. WaowDeals liet er zien in een meer dan goede vorm te verkeren.  
Sabrina Stultiens viel aan op de pittige klim. Er waren maar weinig rensters die antwoord hadden op het machtsvertoon. Enkel Katrin Garfoot en Annemiek van Vleuten wisten aan te pikken. Samen reden ze weg. 
 
 
Op 7 kilometer van de eindstreep draaide Sabrina andermaal de gashendels open. Ze reed weg bij haar medevluchters en verdedigde in het slotstuk een minieme voorsprong ten opzichte van Garfoot, Van Vleuten en het achtervolgende peloton. Daarin hadden de sprintersploegen de handen ineengeslagen.
 
 
Uitstekend niveau
In de laatste kilometer werd Sabrina alsnog ingerekend. Anouska Koster zat in het uitgedunde pak en mocht meesprinten om de zege. “Zij zat er echt heel goed bij, maar in de sprint deed zich een valpartij voor. Daardoor werd ze jammer genoeg gehinderd”, zegt ploegleider Jeroen Blijlevens.
 
 
Het was een klein smetje op een positieve dag. “We hebben vandaag iets geprobeerd om te zien welk niveau we kunnen halen. De 2 rensters die het moesten doen, hebben laten zien dat ze een uitstekend niveau kunnen halen. En al onze andere rensters hebben tot de beklimmingen gedaan wat er van hen gevraagd.

Amanda Spratt (Mitchelton Scott) is de eindwinnares van de Santos Women Tour Down Under 2018. In de vierde etappe, een criterium in Adelaide, komt de zege voor de Australische renster niet meer in gevaar. Chloë Hoskin (Ale Cipollini) wint de massasprint voor haar landgenote Giorgia Bronzini (Cylance Pro Cycling) en Annette Edmondson (Wiggle High5). Beste Nederlandse is  Eva Buurman (Trek – Drops) op de veertiende plaats.

Amanda Spratt (Mitchelton Scott) slaat in de derde etappe van de Santos Women Tour Down Under haar slag. De Australische renster is in Hanhdorf de winnares. Lauren Stephens (Cylance Pro Cycling) finisht na 122.4 km als tweede op 7 seconden. Grace Brown (Holden Gusto Racing), derde aankomende heeft al 59 seconden achterstand. Annemiek van Vleuten (Mitchelton Scott) is ook nu de beste Nederlandse renster, twaalfde.
Met nog alleen het criterium op Wakefield Road te gaan is Amanda Spratt zo goed als zeker de winnares van deze vierdaagse wielerwedstrijd.

Katrin Garfoot (Uni-SA Australia) wint in Mengler’s Hill voor haar landgenoten  Amanda Spratt (Mitchelton Scott) – Lucy Kennedy (Mitchelton Scott)..Annemiek van Vleuten (Mitchelton Scott) finisht vandaag als vierde.

Women’s Tour Down Under 2018, eerste etappe

 

 

Annette Nettie Edmondson (Wiggle High5) wint de eerste etappe van de Women’s Tour Down Under (WTDU). De Australische renster verslaat in Gumeracha na 115,7 kilometer haar landgenote Laretta Hanson (UnitedHealthCare) en de Italiaanse Giogia Bronzini (Cylance Pro Cycling). Sabrina Stultiens (WaowDeals Pro Cycling) is de leider in het bergklassement. Minder goed nieuws: Monique Van de Ree (Waowdeals Pro Cycling) valt in de finale en is met de ambulance naar het ziekenhuis vervoerd. Volgens ploegleider Jeroen Blijlevens valt het gelukkig allemaal mee.
